Learn how different operating systems report file size
Not all operating systems report file size in the same way. This can create confusion when working across different platforms.
MASV reports file size on what is referred to as "base 2". This means we calculate 1 KB as 1024 bytes.
macOS and iOS
macOS and iOS report file size using base 10 calculations (metric).
Basically they treat 1 GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Microsoft Windows, Linux, and older macOS
Operating systems such as Linux and Windows, and older versions of macOS (X Leopard) and iOS (10), all report their data in base 2 format (binary).
They treat 1 GB as 1,073,741,824 bytes.
When you use the MASV Web App or the MASV Desktop App to upload and download files, MASV always reports the data using the base 2 calculation.
