How to control who can access a MASV Portal

Enable a user authentication requirement to control who can upload or download files via MASV Portals

You can control who can access a MASV Portal by enabling the Require user authentication setting. When enabled, users must sign in to their MASV account and meet the authentication requirements before they can upload or download files via the Portal. For example, the user must…

  • Belong to the Team.
  • Have permission according to their role (Owner, Admin, Member, Guest).
  • Be a member of the corresponding Teamspace (if applicable).

The authentication method used for the Team will be enforced for the Portal. Authentication methods include email and password, Google, SSO (single sign-on), API key (in the case of an integration), and any MFA requirements.

User authentication is an alternative to setting Password protection for a Portal. Upload and download password protection is an ideal security option when working with collaborators who are external to your MASV Teams. For more information about Upload Passwords and Download Passwords, see  How to create, edit, or delete a Portal.

Note: The Security tab does not display Require user authentication options if the feature is not enabled for your account. Enterprise customers who use SSO or other Team authentication methods with MASV can contact support@masv.io for information about enabling this feature.

MASV Desktop Note: User authentication for downloads from Portals is not currently supported in the MASV Desktop App or MASV Agent.

To require user authentication for Portal upload or download access

  1. In the MASV Web App, as an Owner or Admin (role), select Request Files with Portals from the sidebar on the left.

  2. Select the Portal you want to protect, and in the Actions column, select the Actions icon , and select Edit from the drop-down menu.

  3. On the Edit Portal page, select the Security tab.

  4. If you are using Teamspaces to limit access to a specific group of users, in the Assign Teamspace box, select the Teamspace from the list.

  5. Do any of the following:

    1. In the Upload Security area, select Require user authentication.

    2. In the Download Security area, select Require user authentication.
  6. Select the Save button in the lower-right corner to apply the changes.

When users receive an email or link with a request to upload files or a download files link, they will now need to sign in to MASV to authenticate before they can access the Portal.
